Home Charger NZ is an independent New Zealand site that helps EV owners understand home charger installation, see realistic cost ranges, and get matched with local Registered Electricians. We are not owned by an installer and we don’t run a wall of unverified listings.

Who runs this site

Home Charger NZ is built and run independently by Peter, an Auckland-based data and AI specialist. It is one of three small New Zealand sites he publishes, alongside KiwiWorth, a take-home pay calculator, and Korean Local NZ, a bilingual directory of Korean-speaking businesses. None of them is owned by an installer, a charger brand, or an electricity retailer.

Why this site exists

Getting a home charger installed in New Zealand is confusing. Prices vary widely depending on your switchboard, cable run and parking, and it’s hard to know which electricians genuinely do EV work. Generic trades marketplaces treat an EV charger like any other job and blast your number to whoever bids first.

We built Home Charger NZ to do the opposite: give you straight, EV-specific information up front, then connect you with a small number of verified local Registered Electricians — never an unclaimed listing, never a cold-call free-for-all.

How we verify installers

A listing only becomes a verified installer — one we’ll actually route your enquiry to — once it has cleared these checks:

• It’s a licensed Registered Electrician, able to issue a Certificate of Compliance.
• The business has claimed its own profile and confirmed its details with us.
• It confirms the service area it actually covers.
• Its contact details are confirmed by the business, not scraped.
• We never send your enquiry to an unclaimed listing — only to verified installers.

We’re onboarding verified installers region by region, so coverage is still growing. Unclaimed listings you see in our directory are compiled from public information, clearly flagged, and are not endorsements — they never receive your details. If you run one of those businesses, you can claim, correct or remove it at any time.

How your enquiry is handled

1. You tell us about your home and what you need — about two minutes, no account.
2. We review the details and qualify the enquiry.
3. With your consent, we pass it to the relevant verified local installer so they can quote you.
4. They quote you directly. There’s no obligation to go ahead.

We keep a record of which installer received your enquiry, store only what we need, and transmit it securely. See our privacy policy for the detail.

Is it free for EV owners?

Yes — completely. Requesting quotes through Home Charger NZ never costs you anything, and you're never obligated to accept a quote.

How do you make money?

Installers — not EV owners — may pay us for qualified leads or for a featured listing. That keeps the service free for you, and it means we only earn when we send installers genuinely useful enquiries.

Do you sell my details?

No. We share your enquiry only with the relevant local installer(s) you consent to on the quote form, and we never sell your information for unrelated marketing.
